MARCH 14th (3-14)
The number Pi (π) is a mathematical constant describing the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14.
It is commonly used in formulas for geometry and trigonometry; it is also an important constant in many scientific fields, ranging from mathematics to thermodynamics to cosmology.
Pi is an irrational number, meaning it cannot be expressed exactly in the form of a common fraction. This also means that its decimal representation is infinitely long.
PI Facts
DISCOVERY
Approximations of π have been found in ancient texts from Egypt and Babylon, dated between 1900 – 1600 BC, or 4,000 years ago.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi#History
GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA
It has been theorized that he Great Pyramid of Giza, built in approximately 2500 BC, was designed based on π. The pyramid’s height is close to 2π times its height.

COMPUTING
Being an irrational number, π is infinitely long in its decimal representation and computers have calculated it to a record 12 trillion digits, so far:http://www.numberworld.org/misc_runs/pi-12t/
MEMORIZATION
Chao Lu from China currently holds the Guinness World Record for correctly reciting π to an amazing 67,890 digits. The attempt took over 24 hrs to complete.
